The new supermarket development planned for Madison Valley would level an entire hillside. It is gigantically out of scale with the surrounding neighborhood. It would cause an unmitigated traffic disaster. It would utterly transform life in the neighborhood forever.
The urbanists say this kind of grotesque dislocation is an inevitable consequence of “growth.” If that’s true, then their vision for the future of Seattle is wrong. The City has not worked hard enough to find a path to the future that can accommodate a growing population without destroying that which makes Seattle a good place to live.
We visited the group Save Madison Valley and saw their walking presentation about what the proposed building would do to the neighborhood. We followed presenter Kevin Murphy as he walked around the hillside that is slated for destruction. We hope this video gives an idea of the severe consequences of the proposed development.
